Clay represents clients in state and federal courts, involving employment law, commercial disputes, lending disputes, legal malpractice, and products liability.
He has handled employment cases involving claims for wrongful termination; age, race and sex discrimination; harassment and retaliation claims; and other violations of Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act and Family Medical Leave Act. He works with employers on establishing policies, compliance issues and risk assessment. The subjects include employee handbooks; policy compliance; hiring, discipline and termination; investigations; covenants not to compete; trade secrets; and FMLA and ADA issues. He has also worked as a corporate trainer for prevention of employment related harassment.
Clay has devoted significant time to serving as a mediator. As a neutral, he has worked with parties and counsel to resolve a wide array of civil disputes. He has also assisted in training seminars for mediators.
He served as a law clerk for the United States District Judge G. Ross Anderson, Jr., in 1986-1987. He has served as chairman of the South Carolina Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and the Richland County Bar Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has been certified as a mediator by the South Carolina Supreme Court Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification, by the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and by the South Carolina Council for Mediation and Arbitration Dispute Resolution. He has been a continuing legal education speaker on litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Robinson has served as an officer of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and of the Central South Carolina chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
