Mr. Spong's practice involves commercial and residential foreclosure, lender liability and commercial litigation. In the commercial area, the types of foreclosures recently handled include a golf course, a stock yard, a performing theater and commercial office buildings. In the residential area, Mr. Spong recently litigated the enforceability of arbitration agreements regarding consumer claims against the lender.
In the construction area, Mr. Spong's recent cases involve the scope of liability on construction bonds, including bid bonds submitted by contractors; Mr. Spong also was involved in a recent nationally reported case addressing the scope of liability of architects arising out of administrative duties in relation to subcontractors.
Mr. Spong also serves as the Chapter 12 Bankruptcy Trustee for the district of South Carolina.
Mr. Spong previously served as counsel to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee, United States Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee and Legislative Director to United States Senator Strom Thurmond (R-SC).
